Sambani Lodge - Things to Do

Activities:

There are a wide range of activities available on request at Sambani Lodge; some traditional and others slightly more contemporary.

Games and Activities:

Football
One of the most popular games in Malawi and one that will guarantee everyone joining in. Endless children will appear if you take the Sambani Lodge football onto the beach - tiring on the sand but great fun!

Snorkelling
Sambani Lodge has four snorkels and masks for use by its guests. Ask at the bar and then head out to the rocky area to the left of Sambani Lodge to see some of the multi-coloured Siclids of Lake Malawi - early evening and early morning are best, but fish can be seen at any time of day.

Boat Trips
To the nearby island, or just for a potter around the lake!

Birdwatching
An activity that will quickly yeild results along the lakeshore where many species of bird live. There are several fish eagles that nest nearby to Sambani Lodge, as well as numerous other birds.

Bao
A local board game played with dried beans and an intricately carved board. Split into 32 squares (16 each) you have to defend your front 8 squares while attacking your opponents front 8 squares. Bao is a simple game that takes a lifetime to master and at Sambani Lodge there is always a willing teacher with too much time on their hands to guide you through your first few games!

Tabletennis
Play inside or outside depending on how much wind there is - bats and balls available from behind the bar.

Volleyball
Take the Sambani Lodge volleyball out onto the beach and with a small group and see who joins in. Two huge bamboo poles and a net mean endless volleyball for as long as the sun is up over Lake Malawi, and if it all gets too hot under that Malawi Northern region sun, take a break and have a chilled beer or soft drink in the Sambani Lodge bar.
